Location: Harrogate, North Yorkshire | Start Date: September 2026 | Contract: Full-time / Term-time (Part-time considered)

We are seeking a compassionate and dedicated Special Educational Needs (SEN) Teaching Assistant to join a welcoming primary school in Harrogate from September. This is a rewarding opportunity to support pupils with additional needs, helping them access learning, build confidence, and thrive within a nurturing and inclusive environment.

Responsibilities

  • Provide 1:1 and small group support for pupils with SEN (e.g. Autism, ADHD, speech and language, SEMH)
  • Assist the class teacher in delivering adapted and inclusive lessons
  • Support the implementation of EHCPs and Individual Education Plans (IEPs)
  • Encourage pupils' social, emotional, and academic development
  • Promote positive behaviour and reinforce school expectations
  • Help create a safe, engaging, and supportive learning environment
  • Work collaboratively with the class teacher, SENCo, and external professionals
  • Support with personal care if required (training provided)
  • Monitor and record pupil progress

About You

  • Patient, caring, and genuinely passionate about supporting children with additional needs
  • Able to build strong, trusting relationships with pupils and staff
  • Adaptable and resilient in a busy school environment
  • A strong team player with a positive, proactive attitude

Essential Requirements

  • Experience working with children or young people with special educational needs
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills
  • Understanding of safeguarding and child protection responsibilities

Desirable

  • Level 2 or 3 Teaching Assistant qualification (or equivalent)
  • Experience within a primary school setting
  • Knowledge of autism, SEMH, or speech and language support strategies
  • Team Teach or behaviour support training
