Job Description

Registered Manager – Children's Home

Location: Preston/BlackpoolService Type: Residential Children's HomeContract Type: Full Time | PermanentSalary: Competitive – Up to £55,000 (Dependent on experience and qualifications)

We are looking for a Registered Manager to work in an autism specialist service, offering both 38 and 52-week residential care for children and young people aged 8-19 with Autism Spectrum Disorder and associated needs. Located alongside an on-site school, our homes provide a nurturing, structured environment where young people receive tailored support to reach their full potential.

Each of our children's homes on-site accommodates up to 6 young people. As the Registered Manager, you will be responsible for the leadership and management of one of these homes and will work in partnership with fellow managers and the Head of Care to ensure the delivery of exceptional care and education.

Role Overview

As a Registered Manager, you will hold the Ofsted registration for your designated home. You will lead a multidisciplinary team-including deputy managers, team leaders, and support workers-to deliver high-quality, person-centred care in line with the Children's Homes Regulations (England) 2015, the Quality Standards, and the home's Statement of Purpose.

Key Responsibilities

For Children and Young People:

  • Ensure the home meets Ofsted requirements and safeguarding standards.
  • Support young people with Autism and communication needs using tools such as visual aids, Now & Next boards, and assistive technologies.
  • Oversee personalised care plans, EHCPs, and placement planning to support each young person's development.
  • Promote integration into the community and support with education, health, dietary, religious, and personal needs.
  • Respond to referrals and admissions, including risk assessments and compatibility evaluations.
  • Monitor outcomes and progress, making necessary adjustments to care strategies.

For Staff Management:

  • Lead a team of care professionals with clarity, vision, and a commitment to excellence.
  • Manage recruitment, onboarding, training, supervisions, and appraisals.
  • Maintain and develop training matrices, workforce development plans, and staffing rotas.
  • Ensure regulatory requirements such as DBS checks, safeguarding protocols, and health and safety standards are upheld.
  • Provide coaching, guidance, and disciplinary oversight where required.

Quality Assurance & Compliance:

  • Ensure full compliance with Ofsted standards, the Social Care Common Inspection Framework, and internal policies.
  • Manage and respond to Regulation 44 and Regulation 45 visits, audits, and inspections.
  • Develop, implement, and review the home's Statement of Purpose, Location Risk Assessments, QIP, and other core documentation.
  • Promote equality, inclusion, and culturally sensitive care.

Resource & Environment Management:

  • Oversee the upkeep and safety of the home and grounds.
  • Ensure homeliness, infection control, and environmental health standards are met.
  • Operate within allocated budgets and report on expenditure when required.

About You

We're looking for a dynamic, child-focused individual who can lead with empathy, accountability, and resilience. The successful candidate will have:

Essential:

  • A minimum of 2 years' experience in a senior role within a children's residential setting.
  • Level 5 Diploma in Leadership and Management for Residential Childcare (or be working towards it).
  • A thorough understanding of the Children's Homes Regulations 2015 and Quality Standards.
  • Proven ability to manage inspections, audits, and regulatory frameworks (Ofsted, Reg 44/45).
  • Excellent communication, problem-solving, and organisational skills.

Desirable:

  • Experience supporting children with Autism, communication difficulties, or complex needs.
  • Knowledge of EHCP processes and multi-agency collaboration.
  • Experience working within an education-linked residential setting.
