Job Description
To raise standards of learning and teaching in the EYFS, lead curriculum development, and support staff and pupils to achieve the best outcomes. The EYFS Lead is a member of the school's leadership team and plays a key role in strategic decision-making.
Key ResponsibilitiesLeadership & Management
- Lead, manage, and develop the EYFS curriculum.
- Enhance and support the practice of all EYFS staff.
- Use data to inform curriculum decisions and track pupil progress.
- Liaise with KS1 staff to ensure continuity and progression.
- Collaborate with external agencies related to EYFS provision.
- Monitor teaching quality, learning outcomes, and resource use.
- Organise staff meetings and INSET training.
- Contribute to school policies and the Academy Development Plan.
- Advise SLT on EYFS resourcing needs.
Teaching & Learning
- Be an excellent classroom practitioner with at least 3 years EYFS experience.
- Plan and deliver lessons that meet the needs of all learners.
- Maintain high standards of behaviour and discipline.
- Undertake high-quality observations and assessments.
- Create a safe, stimulating, and well-organised learning environment.
Staff Development
- Lead, support, and challenge EYFS staff.
- Model best practices and high-quality EYFS provision.
- Communicate effectively with staff, parents, and external professionals.
Parental Engagement
- Provide information to parents/carers to encourage involvement.
- Foster strong relationships with families to support pupil development.
Person SpecificationEssential
- QTS and a degree.
- Minimum 3 years EYFS teaching experience.
- Experience leading others.
- Strong knowledge of EYFS statutory framework and Development Matters.
- Ability to analyse data, plan effectively, and differentiate teaching.
- Excellent communication and ICT skills.
- Commitment to safeguarding and child protection.
Desirable
- Experience in KS1 or with children under 3.
- Experience working with EAL, SEN, and disadvantaged pupils.
- Understanding of assessment for learning and play-based pedagogy.
