We are seeking a dedicated, patient, and nurturing 1:1 SEND Teaching Assistant to join our supportive primary school team. This role involves working closely with a child who has behavioural, social, emotional, and special educational needs, ensuring they can access learning, feel supported, and thrive within the school environment. You will work alongside teachers, SENCOs, and other support staff to deliver tailored interventions, maintain consistent routines, and help the child develop positive behaviour strategies and essential learning skills.

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide 1:1 support for a child with behavioural and special educational needs throughout the school day.
  • Assist with personalised learning programmes and differentiated activities set by the class teacher and SENCO.
  • Use positive behaviour management strategies to support emotional regulation and engagement.
  • Help create a safe, inclusive, and nurturing environment.
  • Build strong, trusting relationships with the child, promoting confidence and independence.
  • Support with social interaction, communication, and sensory needs as required.
  • Maintain clear, accurate records of progress, behaviour, and any interventions delivered.
  • Work collaboratively with staff, external professionals, and parents/carers.

We Are Looking For Someone Who

  • Has experience working with children with SEND, particularly behavioural or emotional needs (desirable but not essential).
  • Is calm, resilient, patient, and able to remain positive under pressure.
  • Can build rapport quickly and act as a consistent, supportive presence.
  • Communicates clearly and works well as part of a team.
  • Is willing to learn, take direction, and adapt to the child's needs.
  • Demonstrates empathy, compassion, and a genuine passion for helping children succeed.

Qualifications

  • Level 2/3 Teaching Assistant qualification (desirable but not mandatory).
  • Training in Team Teach, de-escalation, or similar behaviour support approaches is a plus.
