Veritas Education are working with a fantastic specialist all-through school in Darlington that supports pupils aged 5-19 with Autism (ASC) and Social, Emotional & Mental Health (SEMH) needs. The school provides a highly nurturing, structured learning environment and is seeking a committed SEN Teaching Assistant to join their team as soon as possible.

The Role

  • Support pupils with Autism and SEMH needs across primary and secondary phases
  • Provide 1:1 and small-group support to help pupils access learning
  • Use de-escalation strategies and promote positive behaviour
  • Work collaboratively with teaching staff, pastoral teams and therapists
  • Help create a safe, positive and inclusive environment
  • Support pupils with communication, emotional regulation and sensory needs

The Ideal Candidate Will Have

  • Previous experience supporting children or young people with SEN (Autism, SEMH, complex needs or challenging behaviour)
  • A calm, resilient and empathetic approach
  • Strong communication and relationship-building skills
  • The ability to work as part of a multi-disciplinary team
  • A valid Enhanced Child & Adult Workforce DBS on the Update Service (or willing to apply)
