We are recruiting a SEN Teaching Assistant to join a supportive independent special school in Burnley, working with pupils aged 7-16 (with some provision up to 19) who have autism and Social, Emotional, and Mental Health (SEMH) needs.

The school provides a structured, nurturing environment where pupils benefit from personalised learning, strong staff relationships, and a focus on emotional wellbeing. Staff work collaboratively to create a calm, safe, and engaging setting that enables every young person to thrive.

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide 1:1 and small group support for pupils with autism and SEMH needs
  • Support access to learning through differentiated, sensory-informed strategies
  • Promote emotional regulation, resilience, and positive behaviour
  • Work towards EHCP targets alongside teachers and the wider support team
  • Help maintain a safe, structured, and inclusive learning environment
  • Monitor, record, and report on pupil progress and behaviour
  • Support personal care and behavioural needs where required

Requirements

  • Experience working with children or young people with SEN, particularly autism and/or SEMH (essential)
  • Calm, patient, and empathetic approach
  • Ability to build strong, positive relationships
  • Strong teamwork skills
  • Level 2 or Level 3 Supporting Teaching and Learning qualification (desirable)
  • Willingness to support personal care needs
  • Enhanced DBS (or willingness to obtain)
