Complex Needs Education Assistant

Veritas Education are recruiting Complex Needs Education Assistants to support pupils within a specialist primary school in Bradford.

The school has a dedicated pathway for children with profound and complex needs, including pupils who use wheelchairs, require PEG feeding, and need high levels of physical, medical and sensory support.

As a Complex Needs Education Assistant, you will play a vital role in helping children with Profound and Multiple Learning Difficulties (PMLD) and Special Educational Needs (SEN) access learning, communication and meaningful experiences throughout the school day.

This is a deeply rewarding role where your support directly enhances each child's quality of life, independence and wellbeing.

Key Responsibilities

  • One-to-one support and small-group work with pupils with complex physical and learning needs
  • Assist with individualised learning plans, sensory programmes and therapeutic activities
  • Provide safe and dignified personal care, including PEG feeding, toileting, repositioning and mobility support
  • Use hoists, slings and specialist equipment following moving & handling guidance
  • Work collaboratively with teachers, physiotherapists, occupational therapists and medical staff
  • Support pupils' communication using AAC methods, switches, eye-gaze or other assistive technologies
  • Promote social interaction, engagement and emotional wellbeing
  • Record progress, observations and behaviour to support personalised learning

Requirements

  • Experience supporting children or adults with complex needs, physical disabilities or medical needs
  • Personal experience supporting a family member with SEN/PMLD is welcomed
  • Team Teach Level 2 (training can be provided by Veritas)
  • Safeguarding training (can be provided)
  • GCSE English & Maths
  • Strong understanding of SEN, PMLD and inclusive practice
  • Excellent communication, empathy and resilience Ability to remain calm, professional and nurturing in challenging situations
  • Moving & handling training is preferred
  • Willingness to support personal care and medical routines
  • Enhanced DBS (or willingness to apply)
