Veritas Education are working in partnership with specialist behaviour provisions across West Yorkshire, and we are looking to appoint an SEMH Teaching Assistant to join one of our partner schools on a long-term basis, starting immediately. This role is ideal for someone with experience supporting young people who present Social, Emotional and Mental Health (SEMH) needs, challenging behaviour, or additional learning needs. You will be working closely with teachers, pastoral teams, and behaviour leads to help pupils re-engage with learning and develop positive relationships within school.

Role Responsibilities

  • Supporting pupils with SEMH needs on a 1:1 and small-group basis
  • Helping manage challenging behaviour in a calm, consistent manner
  • Building positive, trusting relationships with pupils
  • Assisting with classroom routines, learning activities, and intervention sessions
  • Working with the SENCO and behaviour leads to implement personalised support plans
  • Promoting emotional regulation, resilience, and positive behaviours
  • Ensuring a safe, supportive environment for all students

What We're Looking For

  • Experience working with SEMH, behaviour, youth work, or similar roles
  • A patient, resilient, and supportive approach
  • Strong behaviour management skills
  • Ability to remain calm under pressure
  • A genuine passion for supporting young people
  • Enhanced DBS certificate on the Update Service (or willingness to apply)
