Veritas Education is proud to be recruiting on behalf of a highly successful and well-established post-16 education provider in the West Midlands for a Head of SEND / SENCO .

This is an exciting leadership opportunity within an outstanding learning environment that is recognised for delivering exceptional outcomes and transforming life chances for students from diverse backgrounds.

The successful candidate will lead the strategic and operational development of SEND provision, ensuring that students with additional needs receive outstanding support that enables them to achieve academically, develop independence and successfully prepare for adulthood.

The Role

As Head of SEND and the designated SENCO, you will

  • Lead and develop the college's SEND strategy, policy and provision.
  • Manage and support the Inclusive Learning Support team.
  • Work collaboratively with teaching staff to ensure effective classroom support and inclusive practice.
  • Oversee Individual Learning Plans (ILPs) and monitor student progress and outcomes.
  • Coordinate support for students with Education, Health and Care Plans (EHCPs) and other additional needs.
  • Build strong relationships with parents, carers and external agencies.
  • Deliver staff training and promote best practice across the organisation.
  • Contribute to safeguarding as part of the wider safeguarding leadership team.

About You

We are seeking a professional who can demonstrate

  • Extensive experience working with ages 11-18with SEND.
  • QTS and SENCO Qualification
  • Strong knowledge of the SEND Code of Practice and current legislation.
  • Experience of leading or managing teams within an educational setting.
  • Excellent communication, organisational and interpersonal skills.
  • A commitment to inclusion, safeguarding and achieving positive outcomes for all learners.
  • The ability to inspire both students and colleagues through high expectations and a collaborative approach.
