About The Role
Within CR&S, our well-established Sustainable Procurement and Human Rights team has been at the forefront of the ongoing evolution of business and sustainability strategy, management, and research for over 20 years. This team operates alongside β and in close collaboration β with multi-disciplinary teams responsible for creating innovative products and consulting solutions related to Climate & Resilience, ESG Reporting and Political Risk.
As a Business and Human Rights consultant, you will help to steer our human rights consulting work to support our clients to ensure that their business practices align with international standards, domestic laws and norms related to all social issues. You will work closely with client teams, building strong relationships characterised by high levels of trust, and take a lead role in business development (e.g. scoping, proposal writing and contributing to thought leadership pieces on key business and human rights trends). You will also assist clients by developing and helping to implement strategies to address the actual and potential social impacts of their operations, supply chains and investments.
The role also provides an excellent opportunity to contribute to the wider work of the business in developing innovative new products to help our clients positively impact the human rights and sustainability agendas at scale. A degree of domestic and international travel will be required for short periods of time (i.e. days rather than weeks), depending on project / business development requirements, and personal circumstances. The successful candidate will also be encouraged to participate in external sustainability initiatives / communities of practice to enhance their ability to create positive impacts, experience new working contexts and develop stronger professional networks.
About The Day-to-Day Responsibilities Of The Role
In this role you will lead and work on a range of projects for our clients. This is likely to include:
- Assuming leadership roles in the delivery of consulting projects in the fast-evolving world of human rights, advising clients on strategy formulation, governance arrangements, due diligence (including risk and impact assessments), regulatory compliance, stakeholder engagement, and external reporting.
- Leading business development activities, including needs assessment, project scoping, proposal writing, commercial and contractual negotiation (in close collaboration with Sales and Account Management colleagues).
- Contributing to client engagement and brand awareness activities, including creating engaging thought leadership material, presenting at conferences and webinars, roundtable facilitation, etc.
- Helping to identify opportunities to develop new delivery tools and convert consulting solutions into scalable, subscription-based products, working in close collaboration with Product, Sales & Marketing, and Analytics teams.
- Supporting the maintenance and enhancement of existing subscription-based products through expert analysis and research.
- Providing leadership, training, and guidance to junior colleagues within the Sustainable Procurement and Human Rights team and to those from other teams contributing to your projects.
Responsibilities
QUALIFICATIONS
- Approximately 10+ years of consulting experience working within the business and human rights field and/or related areas (such as responsible sourcing, sustainability, impact assessment, ESG, etc.), ideally within consulting or private sector contexts.
- A proven track record of successful consulting delivery, including the identification and nurturing of opportunities, development of robust and creative technical proposals, project and team management, and client engagement.
- Expert knowledge of international human rights standards and norms, and key national and international regulatory requirements and trends, particularly as they relate to business.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to engage with a wide range of stakeholders.
- Microsoft Office proficiency, particularly PowerPoint and Excel.
- Good presentation, research, report writing and analytical skills.
