Job Description We have an exciting opportunity for a Head of Software Engineering to join our UK Claims Technology leadership team.
Working alongside the Head of Software Delivery and reporting to the UK Claims CTO, you will play a key role in ensuring our engineering teams deliver high-quality, scalable software aligned to our technical strategy and architectural direction.
This role combines technical leadership, strategy creation & oversight and people development, with a strong focus on enabling teams to build and operate modern cloud-native systems and shared platform services.
You will work closely with engineers, architects, and product stakeholders to ensure consistent engineering practices, support architectural evolution, and mentor senior developers across the organisation.
What You’ll Be Supporting Our platform is built around shared cloud services running on AWS, supporting multiple Saa S products across the insurance ecosystem.
You will work with technologies such as

Key Responsibilities Technical Leadership & Strategy Alignment
- Ensure development teams operate in alignment with the UK Claims technical strategy and architectural principles
- Support the adoption and evolution of cloud-native, microservices and event-driven architectures
- Partner with Engineering and Product teams to translate strategy into practical delivery outcomes
- Promote consistent engineering standards, design practices, and reusable platform capabilities Delivery & Engineering Excellence
- Provide oversight and support across multiple development teams to ensure high-quality, reliable solutions
- Drive best practices across the software development lifecycle, including CI/CD, automation, and testing
- Help teams balance new product development, enhancements, and platform evolution
- Act as an escalation point for complex technical or delivery challenges People & Capability Development
- Mentor and support Lead Developers and senior engineers, fostering technical excellence and innovation
- Help build a strong engineering culture focused on collaboration, quality, and continuous improvement
- Support career development and capability growth across the engineering community
- Encourage adoption of modern tools, practices, and ways of working Collaboration & Ways of Working
- Work closely with the Head of Software Delivery to ensure effective team structures and delivery models

- Enable cross-team alignment across shared services and product teams Skills & Experience Essential Requirements
- Proven experience in a senior technical or engineering leadership role (e. g.
- Technical Delivery Manager, Engineering Manager, Head of Development)
- Strong experience with modern software architectures, including microservices, APIs, and cloud platforms (AWS preferred)
- Experience delivering cloud-native Saa S platforms or distributed systems
- Deep understanding of software development practices, including CI/CD, testing, and Dev Ops principles
- Experience mentoring and developing senior engineers and technical leaders
- Strong stakeholder management skills with the ability to work across technology and business teams Desirable
- Experience with AWS serverless technologies (Lambda, Step Functions, API Gateway)
