Role Overview
Our client is seeking an experienced and dedicated Mechanical Contracts Manager to oversee the delivery of mechanical services from project inception through to completion. This key role is responsible for ensuring projects are delivered safely, efficiently, on time, within budget, and to the highest quality standards.
Working closely with internal teams, engineers, subcontractors, and clients, the successful candidate will play a vital role in driving operational excellence, developing client relationships, and supporting the company’s commitment to sustainable growth and outstanding service delivery.
Key Responsibilities
- Project & Contract Management
- Manage mechanical works across planned, reactive, service, and small works contracts from initial survey through to completion.
- Undertake surveying, estimating, and pricing of small works, planned preventative maintenance (PPM), and reactive service contracts.
- Coordinate labour resources, materials, subcontractors, and site activities to ensure projects are completed efficiently and within budget.
- Work closely with the office team to schedule and manage workloads across multiple sites.
- Ensure all service calls and small works projects are delivered on time, to budget, and in line with client expectations, quality standards, and regulatory requirements.
- Team Leadership & Development
- Lead and manage a team of employed mechanical engineers, providing clear direction, support, and motivation.
- Carry out direct line management responsibilities including performance reviews, mentoring, training, and professional development.
- Support the continued improvement and growth of the engineering team.
- Provide technical guidance and support to administration staff to improve understanding of job requirements and enhance operational efficiency.
- Health, Safety & Compliance
- Drive a positive health and safety culture throughout the business.
- Lead and improve compliance processes, including regular site inspections and audits.
- Ensure best practices are embedded across all operations.
- Maintain compliance with relevant mechanical, gas, and industry regulations.
- Support the business during regulatory inspections, including NICEIC, Gas Safe, and OFTEC assessments.
- Ensure company policies and procedures relating to gas safety and mechanical compliance are implemented and maintained.
- Client Management & Business Growth
- Build and maintain strong relationships with new and existing clients.
- Provide expert technical advice to clients to improve system safety, reliability, and efficiency.
- Identify opportunities to grow the small works department and increase turnover.
- Work collaboratively with the Electrical Services Manager to deliver joint projects and support cross-selling opportunities.
- Provide technical expertise and support to the wider business.
Essential Skills & Experience
The successful candidate will have:
- Recognised industry qualifications within mechanical services.
- Proven experience managing mechanical contracts, projects, or service operations.
- Strong technical knowledge of mechanical systems, regulations, and industry standards.
- Experience managing engineers, subcontractors, and multiple workloads.
- Excellent communication, organisation, and negotiation skills.
- Ability to lead, motivate, and develop a team effectively.
- Strong commercial awareness with experience in estimating and cost control.
- Good IT skills, including proficiency in Microsoft Office packages, particularly Excel.
- A proactive approach with strong problem-solving abilities and attention to detail.
