An exciting opportunity has arisen with our client for an experienced Principal Electrical Engineer to lead and deliver complex projects within a multidisciplinary engineering environment.
The Role
- At Principal level, you will be responsible for the successful delivery of projects within agreed time, quality, and budget constraints.
- You will act as a technical lead, working closely with internal teams, external stakeholders, and clients to deliver high-quality electrical and electronic design solutions.
- You will also play a key role in mentoring junior engineers and supporting business growth through long-term client relationships.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead electrical design delivery, including design calculations and peer reviews.
- Contribute across all RIBA design stages.
- Take responsibility for all aspects of assigned project work.
- Act as technical design lead and mentor within an established team.
- Delegate and manage work packages, providing guidance and support.
- Produce detailed design deliverables (drawings, schedules, specifications, reports).
- Produce due diligence reports and feasibility studies.
- Carry out technical surveys of existing M&E services infrastructure.
- Act as lead representative at project meetings and workshops.
- Liaise with internal and external stakeholders.
- Monitor contractors and oversee construction activities.
- Review and approve contractor shop drawings and technical submissions.
- Respond to RFIs from contractors and tenderers.
- Witness and review tests and mock-ups (on and off site).
- Inspect works and issue quality, defects and practical completion lists.
- Build long-term client relationships with a focus on repeat business.
Qualifications & Experience
- Minimum 2:2 degree in Electrical Engineering or Building Services.
- 8-10 years' industry experience.
- Membership of CIBSE and/or IET.
- Chartered Engineer (CEng) or actively working towards chartership.
Essential Skills
- Strong technical knowledge of electrical engineering and UK/EU/IEC regulations.
- Proven ability to lead, mentor and manage engineering teams.
- Strong understanding of contract administration, procurement and conditions of appointment.
- Ability to contribute to fee proposals with an understanding of resource planning.
- Confident presenting and defending designs to clients and design teams.
