A growing Facilities Maintenance provider is seeking an experienced Commercial Plumber to support its expanding maintenance team. The role involves delivering reactive plumbing repairs and maintenance across London and the surrounding Home Counties, with a strong focus on hospitality sites including restaurants and hotels.
This position requires a proactive engineer capable of responding quickly to plumbing breakdowns and restoring services efficiently while maintaining excellent customer service standards.
Key Responsibilities- Attend reactive plumbing repairs and breakdowns
- Diagnose and resolve plumbing faults across commercial sites
- Achieve first-time fixes where possible
- Carry out planned and reactive plumbing maintenance
- Produce detailed job reports and surveys following site visits
- Communicate effectively with operations teams and site contacts
- Maintain high standards of workmanship and professionalism
- Work collaboratively with other engineers and operational staff
- Proven experience in commercial plumbing maintenance
- Recognised commercial plumbing qualification
- G3 Unvented certification desirable
- Experience working in reactive maintenance environments
- Strong customer service and communication skills
- Ability to provide clear and concise reports
- Strong time management and organisational skills
- Competent using handheld technology for job reporting and communication
- Full UK Driving Licence (essential)
The position operates on a self-employed / sole trader basis.
The company provides:
- Company van and fuel card
- Specialist tools where required
- Parking and congestion charges covered
- Company branded tops, hoodies, and body warmers
Engineers are expected to provide their own work trousers, boots, and hand/power tools.
Training and additional qualifications can be funded by the company, subject to an agreed repayment clause if employment ends within a defined period.
Working HoursEngineers are generally required to be on their first site by 8:00am, with a standard on-site working period of 8:00am - 5:00pm. Due to travel and job allocation, this typically equates to approximately 12-13 hours door-to-door. Overtime opportunities are frequently available.
Pay StructureTypical hourly rates: £19 - £23 per hour
Travel payment structure:
- Initial journey paid at £15 per hour until arrival on site
- Full hourly rate paid from first site through to completion of the final job
- Travel between jobs fully paid
- Return journeys exceeding 1.5 hours also paid
Work between 6pm - 6am paid at time and a half. Engineers participate in a 1 in 4-5 week call-out rota. Call-out payments per day:
- First job: £100
- Second job: £75
- Third job: £50
Where jobs run continuously overnight, payment may instead be calculated at overtime door-to-door rates.
PaymentPayments are made on the last Friday of each month, with the payroll cut-off the preceding Sunday. A flat 20% tax deduction is applied, with engineers responsible for submitting annual financial summaries to an accountant for tax return purposes.
