An exciting opportunity has arisen with our client for an experienced Principal Electrical Engineer to lead and deliver complex projects within a multidisciplinary engineering environment.
The Role
At Principal level, you will be responsible for the successful delivery of projects within agreed time, quality, and budget constraints. You will act as a technical lead, working closely with internal teams, external stakeholders, and clients to deliver high-quality electrical and electronic design solutions. You will also play a key role in mentoring junior engineers and supporting business growth through long-term client relationships.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead electrical design delivery, including design calculations and peer reviews
- Contribute across all RIBA design stages
- Take responsibility for all aspects of assigned project work
- Act as technical design lead and mentor within an established team
- Delegate and manage work packages, providing guidance and support
- Produce detailed design deliverables (drawings, schedules, specifications, reports)
- Produce due diligence reports and feasibility studies
- Carry out technical surveys of existing M&E services infrastructure
- Act as lead representative at project meetings and workshops
- Liaise with internal and external stakeholders
- Monitor contractors and oversee construction activities
- Review and approve contractor shop drawings and technical submissions
- Respond to RFIs from contractors and tenderers
- Witness and review tests and mock-ups (on and off site)
- Inspect works and issue quality, defects and practical completion lists
- Build long-term client relationships with a focus on repeat business
Qualifications & Experience
- Minimum 2:2 degree in Electrical Engineering or Building Services
- 8-10 years' industry experience
- Membership of CIBSE and/or IET
- Chartered Engineer (CEng) or actively working towards chartership
Essential Skills
- Strong technical knowledge of electrical engineering and UK/EU/IEC regulations
- Proven ability to lead, mentor and manage engineering teams
- Strong understanding of contract administration, procurement and conditions of appointment
- Ability to contribute to fee proposals with an understanding of resource planning
- Confident presenting and defending designs to clients and design teams
