Our client is an established civil and structural engineering consultancy with an immediate requirement for a Senior Civil Engineer to join its experienced civil engineering design team in Derby. The role offers exposure to a wide range of projects across multiple sectors and provides structured support towards chartership.

Key Responsibilities

  • Design and drafting of SuDS schemes, private external works, and Section 38 and Section 104 works for adoption.
  • Civil engineering design and drafting across residential, industrial, and commercial sectors.
  • Delivery of projects ranging from small housing schemes to multi-storey developments, with construction values between £250,000 and £30 million.
  • Contribution to projects delivered to BIM Level 2.
  • Use of industry-standard software including MicroDrainage, InfoDrainage, Civil3D, and PDS, with final drawings produced in AutoCAD.
  • Deputising for the team leader as required, including planning and organisation of tasks, people, and resources to ensure timely project delivery in line with current design guidelines.

Skills & Experience

  • Essential: Demonstrable experience using AutoCAD for technical drawing (to be assessed at interview).
  • Degree-level qualification in Civil Engineering.
  • Logical and analytical approach to problem-solving.
  • Experience using Civil3D or PDS, and InfoDrainage or MicroDrainage.
  • Knowledge of the construction industry, relevant design standards, and basic health and safety.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.

Experience

  • Suitable for a Civil Engineer with 3-5 years' post-graduate experience.
  • Experience working collaboratively within a civil engineering design team.
  • Proven ability to manage and deliver design work to required technical standards.
  • Strong client-facing skills, with the ability to communicate effectively in person, by telephone, and in writing.

Professional Development

  • On-the-job training provided to support continued technical development.
  • Close collaboration with senior engineers and structured mentorship towards ICE chartership.

Education & Additional Skills

  • Strong background in English and Mathematics.
  • Fully computer literate, with competency in Microsoft Word and Excel.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving capability.
