A long-established specialist in workplace and environmental monitoring solutions is seeking a Field Installation Engineer to join its Fixed Gas Detection division. The organisation supplies critical safety technology across a wide range of industries, supporting both private and public-sector clients from SMEs to large multinational brands. Their dedicated Fixed Gas Detection team manages full project lifecycles including site surveys, system design, installation, commissioning, and ongoing service and maintenance.
The Field Installation Engineer will play a key role in installing new fixed gas detection systems across customer sites nationwide. Duties include installation, maintenance, servicing, and calibration activities. The position suits someone with strong electrical competence who enjoys hands-on work in the field, both independently and as part of a team. Comprehensive training will be provided.
Key Responsibilities- Install cabling and equipment for gas detection systems, including detectors and warning devices
- Deliver installation projects of various scales for new and existing customers
- Identify additional customer needs during site visits and communicate appropriately
- Carry out system fault-finding and troubleshooting prior to commissioning handover
- Review and apply risk assessments and method statements
- Collaborate closely with colleagues across field and office-based roles
- Maintain regular communication with the Director of Fixed Systems
- Work effectively with internal departments to ensure high customer satisfaction
- Support team objectives by sharing best practice and contributing to process improvements
- Assist in training new team members when required
- Undertake external training and certifications as needed (e.g. CSCS, IPAF, SSSTS)
- Complete administrative duties accurately and on time
- Travel across the UK with occasional overnight stays
- Strong communication skills (written and verbal)
- Ability to interpret CAD/electrical drawings and wiring schematics
- Proficient in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook)
- Previous experience working with electronic and live electrical systems
- Understanding of 4-20mA and RS485 communication protocols
- Experience with BMS or similar control systems
- Background in electrical or cabling installations
- Effective time management and route planning skills
- Ability to work independently and solve problems confidently
- Strong attention to detail and accuracy
- Professional, positive attitude with willingness to learn
- Ability to work under pressure, prioritise tasks, and meet deadlines
- Flexible team player with high standards of workmanship
