We're looking for an experienced and proactive Engineer to play a key role in keeping Verdant Brewing Co. running at its best. This is a hands‑on senior position responsible for the reliability, maintenance, and continuous improvement of our brewing and packaging operations, while also supporting our growing network of venue sites. You’ll lead preventative maintenance programmes, troubleshoot and resolve technical issues, manage engineering projects, and help shape the future of our facilities and production capabilities. From maintaining critical brewing equipment to delivering capital projects and improving brewery efficiency, your work will directly support the quality of the beer we produce. This role would suit someone who enjoys solving problems, taking ownership, and working collaboratively with a passionate team that cares deeply about quality and craftsmanship.
Qualifications & Experience
- Essential
- Experience in an engineering role, ideally within an FMCG or food and beverage manufacturing environment.
- Strong understanding of mechanical and electrical systems.
- Proven ability to diagnose faults and carry out repairs efficiently.
- Excellent problem‑solving skills and attention to detail.
- Strong communication skills and the ability to work across multiple teams.
- A proactive, self‑motivated approach with a continuous improvement mindset.

- Experience working with brewery or beverage production equipment.
- Engineering qualifications (degree, HNC/HND, apprenticeship or equivalent).

Key Responsibilities
- Plant and Equipment
- Lead the maintenance and reliability of all brewing, cellar, and packaging equipment, including the brewhouse, fermentation vessels, bright beer tanks, canning line, kegging systems, CIP systems, glycol plant, steam, compressed air, CO₂ recapture plant, and water treatment.
- Develop and manage a planned preventative maintenance programme.
- Maintain and control engineering spares inventory.
- Respond to breakdowns and minimise production downtime.
- Reliability and Continuous Improvement
- Monitor equipment performance, downtime, and recurring faults to prioritise engineering activity.
- Lead improvement projects focused on efficiency, throughput, waste reduction, and energy and water consumption.
- Scope, cost, and manage capital projects and new equipment installations from concept through to commissioning.
- Work closely with the brewing and production teams to ensure engineering decisions support beer quality and operational excellence.
- Safety and Compliance
- Ensure compliance with all relevant engineering legislation and standards, including pressure systems, electrical testing, boiler inspections, and steam regulations.
- Maintain effective risk assessments, permit‑to‑work systems, and isolation procedures.
- Manage contractors and oversee external engineering works on site.
- Support the company’s environmental commitments by improving plant efficiency and reducing emissions.
- Project Management
- Lead engineering projects from initial concept through procurement, installation, commissioning, and handover.
- Work closely with internal stakeholders and third‑party suppliers to ensure projects are delivered safely, on time, and within budget.
- Identify opportunities for future investment and infrastructure improvements.
- Venue Maintenance
- Oversee the maintenance and upkeep of all venue sites across both Verdant Brewing Co. and Green Spaces Cornwall Ltd.
- Ensure buildings, facilities, and equipment remain safe, compliant, and well maintained.
- Coordinate planned and reactive maintenance, manage contractors, and ensure all statutory inspections are completed.
- Drive improvements that enhance the reliability, efficiency, and longevity of venue infrastructure while minimising operational disruption.
- People and Budget
- Manage and develop engineering and maintenance staff where applicable.
- Support and train production teams in first‑line maintenance practices.
- Manage engineering budgets, maintenance expenditure, service contracts, and capital proposals.
- Build and maintain strong relationships with equipment suppliers and service providers.
