Our Family Support Services
We have an exciting opportunity to join our existing Surrey Family Support team to provide early intervention services for parents and carers of autistic children and young people in the county, whether or not they have a diagnosis. We work directly with parents and carers to provide practical and emotional support to enable the development of their knowledge and understanding, and equip them with the tools they need to be able to support their child's needs, and improve the emotional wellbeing of the whole family.
We have an opportunity to recruit ASD Family Advisors to provide out of hours telephone support to parents and carers of autistic children and young people, whether or not they have a diagnosis. The out of hours helpline will be open from 5-11pm daily, and so you must be available to work between these times on a rolling rota. Calls will be triaged to the service by the CAMHS Duty Team. The service will not have direct contact with the families, children or young people, but will provide reassurance, expertise, support and strategies to families by telephone.
Who we are looking for:
- A passion for and a commitment to, supporting parents and carers of autistic children and young people.
- An understanding of autism, and a positive attitude towards the strengths of the condition, as well as the ability to appreciate the challenges it can present for parents and carers, and work empathically alongside them in a solution focussed way.
- Experience of working with children and young people on the autism spectrum ideally within a professional capacity.
- Experience of working with parents and carers, ideally of people on the autism spectrum within a professional capacity.
- The ability to work calmly under pressure, or when confronted with challenging or upsetting situations.
- Understanding and experience of using, applying and adapting autism specific approaches and strategies.
- Good communication skills, for working with families, and with a remote team and manager.
- Have a good understanding of Safeguarding issues and responsibilities within your professional capacity.
You will be provided with the equipment you need to be able to work from home. There will be a very occasional requirement to travel to team meetings or to training, however we envisage these mostly being delivered virtually.
