The MOL Mechanical Engineer is an outstanding opportunity to contribute in a meaningful way to the continual improvement, quality enhancement, production continuity and cost reduction of the Linx coding and marking portfolio. Working across the entire product lifecycle, the role is responsible for driving Maintenance of Line activities including product improvements, obsolescence management, supply continuity, quality initiatives and technical problem resolution, using industry-proven processes such as FMEA and Visual Project Management.

In this role, the MOL (Maintenance of Line) Mechanical Engineer will work across Linx to realise enhanced customer experience and quality improvement ideas. Working with the Senior Hardware Engineering Manager in Linx, St Ives, this is a fantastic engineering opportunity to develop your industrial design skills, work across various departments and build relationships across the diverse Engineering team.

This position is for a Mechanical Engineer, who has a desire to lead and deliver their own projects, who has good industrial design, realisation, prototyping, testing and development skills. This role will require excellent communication with globally located suppliers and some limited opportunity of travelling both locally and globally. The successful candidate will work in a collaborative environment, where support and encouragement are provided to enable continuous improvement and personal development.

Your responsibilities as an Engineer at Linx include:

  • Deliver Maintenance of Line projects on time, supporting product quality, reliability, manufacturability, supply continuity and cost reduction objectives.
  • Lead investigations and implementation of solutions for product quality issues, production line shortages, supplier challenges and component or product obsolescence.
  • Work closely with Manufacturing, Supply Chain, Quality, Service and Engineering teams to drive product improvements and ensure uninterrupted support of the Linx product portfolio.
  • Manage multiple concurrent projects and technical activities, taking ownership from problem identification through implementation and validation.
  • Develop and realise robust mechanical solutions using mass-production techniques including plastic mouldings, sheet metal and designs optimised for manufacture and assembly.
  • Continuously improve engineering tools, systems and processes including CAD, PDM, FEA and change management processes.
  • Act as a technical specialist for mechanical engineering matters whilst maintaining a professional and safe working environment.

Your Education and/or Background Experience will include:

  • Honours Degree in Mechanical/Aerospace/Automotive Engineering or time-served experience in a relevant industry.
  • Working in a multidisciplinary team to design and develop components and products incorporating electronics and software within the Engineering department of a commercial company.
  • Detailed knowledge on topics including mechanical engineering from first principles, sophisticated system integration, analytical skills, and problem-solving ability.
  • Design of products using CAE tools, integrating mechanics, electronics, and software.
  • Experienced in Creo and Windchill with additional use of SolidWorks, Adobe Illustrator is a distinct advantage.
