About the Role
To support our long-term security and organisational growth, we are currently seeking to recruit a highly motivated and pro-active individual to join our Batch & Furnace Team as a Batch & Furnace Technician (Trainee). This is an exciting and rare opportunity for someone looking to develop a career within glass manufacturing, which is an innovative industry passionate about working towards a sustainable future. Following the initial 6 months of employment based across our Leeds and Knottingley manufacturing plants in West Yorkshire, you will benefit from a two-year assignment based at our manufacturing facility located in Chalone Sur Saone, France. Not only will you spend time in France, you will also have the opportunity to travel to some of our other plants in Europe, as well as South America, on a regular basis as this assignment covers other manufacturing plants within our global group.
Responsibilities
- High-level understanding of the melting process, furnace maintenance, power supplies, composition, glass quality and defects
- Furnace settings ensuring regulatory compliance for environmental rules
- Participate in Furnace design
- Audit participation
- Participate in the continuous improvement process and methodology
- Integration with colleagues in other departmental areas, both in the UK and abroad, to understand the wider functions of glass manufacture
Qualifications
Successful candidates should have Technical, Engineering or Scientific academic qualifications. Degree level is desirable, but not essential, as candidates with A-levels (or equivalent) will be considered.
Required Skills
You should be a logical thinker and have excellent problem-solving skills, with the ability to work well under pressure, in a fast-paced working environment. You should be able to prioritise your workload effectively, and be able to communicate confidently, both written and oral, at all levels.
Preferred Skills
The ability to speak French is desirable, but not essential, however, to integrate successfully during your two-year assignment you will be required to enrol in language lessons in order to achieve a satisfactory level of French communication skills.
