Our one-record solution combines the power of a fully integrated single-record database, personalized communication tools, and an elegant architecture that is unique in our industry. We are a growing, values-led community of over 350 employees in the US, UK, and Australia who share a vision to unify school communities, improve the quality of education, and enhance learning.

About the Role

We’re forming a new AI & Data Operations team and hiring our first AI Platform Engineer to bring safe, practical AI operations into our EdTech products. You’ll work end-to-end across the AI stack – from infrastructure to shipping features. This is a hands-on role. You’ll partner closely with engineering leadership and product teams to ship AI features that help schools, while ensuring reliability, safety, and cost control.

What You’ll Do

  • Build AI-Powered Product Features: Design and ship agentic AI products to optimize and automate school operations.
  • Operate, Optimize & Scale LLM Systems: Curate and maintain our AWS AI infrastructure (Bedrock, GuardRails, etc.). Evaluate and select models, benchmark quality, latency, and cost on school operations tasks. Optimize prompts, caching, batching, and workflows to improve performance and reduce spend. Monitor token usage and implement budgeting and cost controls; run A/B tests across approaches.
  • Safety, Guardrails & Compliance: Design guardrails to prevent hallucinations, bias, and inappropriate outputs. Detect and redact PII in AI inputs/outputs; establish safety protocols for K–12. Build feedback loops for human review and continuous improvement.
  • Observability & Evaluation: Instrument AI systems with logging, metrics, and tracing; build dashboards for quality, latency, cost, and safety. Create evaluation datasets and automated testing pipelines, incorporate user feedback into ongoing improvements.
  • Research & Enablement: Stay current with the AI/ML ecosystem; prototype new models, techniques, and tools. Evaluate and select AI hosting solutions (AWS Agent Core, Cloudflare Agents, etc.).

What You’ll Build (First 12 Months)

  • AI-powered features with measurable impact on school operations.
  • Core AI operations infrastructure: evaluation, monitoring, and guardrails.
  • Scalable best practices for responsible AI across our products.

Qualifications

  • 5+ years of software engineering experience, including hands-on LLM work.
  • Experience building and operating production AI applications.
  • Strong understanding of prompt engineering LLM best practices.
  • Comfortable working with APIs in a polyglot environment.

Strongly Preferred

  • Applied AI skills.
  • Ruby on Rails experience (or willingness to learn quickly) or similar frameworks.
  • Experience in regulated or safety-sensitive domains.

Personal Qualities

  • Pragmatic, production-minded, and security focused.
  • Curious and fast-learning; clear communicator with technical and non-technical audiences.
  • Mission-driven about improving school operations.

Why This Role Is Unique

  • One of the first roles shaping AI solutions across our entire product portfolio.
  • Direct impact on the quality of life of our users.
  • Modern AI solving real problems—not research for research’s sake.
  • Work on a roadmap with strong executive support on a small team with big influence.

Our Tech Environment

Ruby on Rails applications • SQL Server, Postgres & MySQL • AWS cloud infrastructure. You’ll have meaningful input into tool selection, workflows, and long-term AI strategy.

Benefits

  • 4% matched pension contributions.
  • Payroll Giving.
