VWS Westgarth Ltd is part of VWS Oil & Gas Europe; itself a grouping of three businesses collectively reported through the parent, Veolia Water Technologies (VWT). VWT is in turn part of Veolia Environnement SA, a French multinational business. VWS Westgarth Ltd, whose main office is in East Kilbride, Scotland, is a specialist in water treatment systems for the offshore Oil & Gas sector. We are the world leader in Sulphate Removal Process, which is a sea water treatment system for the offshore industry and we are also specialists in treatment systems for oilfield produced waters. Our main offshore markets are currently Angola and Brazil where we also undertake the management responsibility for offices in Luanda and Rio de Janeiro.
Key Objectives:
- Lead a team of Structural Engineers, delegating tasks, monitoring progress of all deliverables and activities, and providing technical mediation within the discipline team.
- Provide technical expertise as part of your Engineer function and have a degree of team leadership responsibility.
- Responsible for delivering a package of work within an allocated project, making technical decisions and setting a positive example to the respective discipline team.
- Frequently collaborate and liaise with other Discipline Leads within the Engineering team and other disciplines within the project team.
- Act as the main interface between the Engineering department management team and hands-on design.
Main Duties:
- Check and advise on design output within the Structural Engineering team ensuring all structural engineering is consistent with drawing office output, including checking/approving of structural drawings.
- Actively contribute to design reviews from a technical standpoint.
- Participate in man-hour budget development for Projects and Tenders.
- Plan and allocate workload to other members of the Structural Engineering team.
- Work closely with the Lead Structural Designer to deliver the scheduled project scope.
- Contribute to the development of any Structural Engineering Graduate/Trainee members of the team.
- Work with the Project Engineering Manager and the Head of Engineering to ensure scope, schedule, man-hour budget, change control, and quality standards are met on the project.
- Maintain progress reports and evaluate discipline team performance, providing regular feedback to the Head of Engineering.
- Discuss project goals with the Head of Engineering and implement any agreed measures to ensure these goals are achieved.
- Carry out own and advise others with design work primarily for steel structures including calculations and software-based analysis.
- Develop material take-off reports for structural materials and control changes to structural material quantities and weights throughout tender and project stage.
- Develop structural design reports and calculations and respond to comments to gain approval by client/certifying authority.
- Review structural specifications and implement requirements to structural design at tender and project stage.
- Assist site construction team and fabricator by advising on structural issues and responding to queries throughout the construction stage.
- Support tendering department by advising on general design issues, carrying out tender-stage design work and advising on projected material quantities.
- Adhere to company and departmental Quality Control procedures ensuring checking is carried out across the department for all work including calculations, drawings and reports.
- Carry out other tasks as required by the company, within the individual’s capabilities.
Qualifications:
- MEng / BEng (or equivalent) in civil/structural engineering or related discipline.
- Chartered Member of Institution of Civil Engineers (or equivalent).
- Structural design and analysis of steel structures.
- Experience using AISC (or equivalent) steel design codes.
- Experience of relevant offshore design codes/specification.
- Excellent structural analysis/design ability.
- Experience using analysis software packages.
- Excellent communicator at all levels including client and sub-contractors.
- Comfortable leading a team and taking responsibility of own and others’ work.
- Understanding of costs/budgets.
- Able to lead on resolution of emergent problems.
- Work quickly and accurately under pressure.
- Identified as having leadership aptitude.
