We're hiring a hands-on Data Engineer to join a high-profile data modernisation programme at one of the UK's most recognisable retail brands. This is a genuinely exciting opportunity to help build a modern data platform from the ground up, working with best-in-class tooling at pace and scale.

The Programme

You'll be joining a data modernisation initiative — replatforming a legacy data and reporting estate onto a modern cloud stack (Snowflake, dbt, Fivetran, Azure), retiring legacy MSSQL warehouses, and delivering across multiple international markets. Fast-paced, high-visibility, and high-impact.

The Role

Working as part of a collaborative engineering team and reporting to a Senior Data Engineer, you'll be hands-on in the day-to-day build of pipelines and data products that power analytics and reporting across the business.

You'll be:

  • Building and maintaining pipelines in Snowflake, dbt and Fivetran, ingesting from SaaS source systems including Workday, Oracle Symphony and NetSuite
  • Writing clean, well-tested SQL, Python and dbt code
  • Building dbt tests and data quality checks
  • Contributing to CI/CD pipelines and peer code reviews
  • Participating in Agile ceremonies and on-call rota once onboarded
  • Documenting pipelines, datasets and design decisions clearly

What We're Looking For

Essential:

  • 2+ years' commercial experience as a Data Engineer or Analytics Engineer
  • Strong SQL — able to write, debug and optimise non-trivial queries
  • Hands-on experience with a modern cloud data warehouse (Snowflake strongly preferred)
  • Hands-on dbt experience (Core or Cloud) — not just exposure
  • Proficient in Python for data transformation and scripting
  • Comfortable with Git and Agile delivery
  • Right to work in the UK without sponsorship

Nice to Have:

  • Fivetran or another managed ELT tool
  • Azure (Function Apps, Logic Apps, Data Factory)
  • MSSQL / T-SQL experience, particularly migrating legacy stored procedures
  • CI/CD tooling (GitHub Actions, Azure DevOps)
  • Power BI familiarity
  • Knowledge of dimensional, semantic or medallion architecture

What's on Offer

  • Up to £68,000 base salary
  • Hybrid — 3 days per week in Manchester (Piccadilly)
  • Private medical insurance
  • Pension & life assurance
  • Retail perks and bonus scheme
  • Genuine career-shaping experience on a high-profile programme with senior mentorship
