Role Overview
The purpose of the Purchasing Agent position is to ensure that quality products are consistently maintained at optimum quantity levels and at the best possible cost to generate sales and maximize profits.
Responsibilities
- Maintain and review assigned product groups (Buy Lines).
- Utilize purchasing queues to identify purchasing needs for the assigned Buy Lines across the enterprise.
- Analyze and summarize product historical data and trends to verify purchasing needs.
- Submit Purchase Order (PO) requisition to suppliers and compare bids.
- Execute PO and/or Transfer to fill inventory requirements.
- Forward PO to preferred suppliers and obtain Order Acknowledgment (OA).
- Reconcile OA to PO and resolve any discrepancies with suppliers.
- Expedite open POs.
- Be a resolution contact between branches and suppliers of any shipping issues, such as quantity variance, incorrect items, and damaged/nonconformance materials.
- Be a point of contact between the Accounts Payable department and suppliers of any pricing and/or credit issues.
- Perform additional duties as assigned or required.
Requirements
- High School diploma or equivalent is required.
- A Bachelor’s degree in Industrial Distribution or Supply Chain Management is preferred.
- Relevant certification (e.g., Certified Professional in Supply Management - CPSM) is a plus.
- 3 or more years of experience in PVF wholesale distribution.
- Computer literate; Proficient with MS Office 365.
- Prior working knowledge of procurement process in an ERP environment, preferably in Eclipse or Prophet 21.
- Knowledge of supplier products, list price, and discount.
- Ability to effectively communicate [written and verbal].
- Thrives in a collaborative team environment.
- Detailed oriented work style comfortable with multiple priorities being juggled while maintaining a consistent work approach.
- Physical requirements: sitting, standing, walking, lifting, carrying, reaching, pushing, and pulling.
- Ability to pass a background check, MVR check, and drug test.
