Venture Recruitment is delighted to be recruiting for a Payroll Officer to join a growing business in Winchester.

This is a varied role combining HR administration, UK payroll, employee benefits and finance support, making it ideal for an experienced HR/payroll professional who enjoys working across multiple areas and takes pride in delivering accurate, confidential and high-quality support.

You will be responsible for supporting the full employee lifecycle, from onboarding through to offboarding, while taking ownership of the monthly payroll process and assisting with employee benefits, pensions and payroll-related finance activities.

Key Responsibilities

  • Act as a key point of contact for employee payroll, pay and benefits queries.
  • Run the monthly payroll process using Sage Payroll, including data checks, statutory submissions, payments and employee communications.
  • Maintain PAYE records and complete year-end payroll reporting.
  • Administer pension auto-enrolment, pension schedules and payroll/finance reconciliations.
  • Manage salary sacrifice arrangements, benefit-in-kind adjustments, repayments, absence deductions and statutory payments.
  • Maintain benefits information, including the Benefits Brochure and relevant intranet content.
  • Ensure payroll and benefits processes remain compliant with current tax and statutory requirements.
  • Administer employee insurance and benefits schemes, including private medical and group life.

  • Prepare and maintain HR correspondence, contracts, employee records and documentation.
  • Coordinate onboarding and offboarding, including relevant checks and system updates.
  • Maintain compliance records, including Right to Work and CEST checks.
  • Support absence management, working pattern changes and employee review processes.
  • Keep up to date with changes in employment law and HR best practice.
  • Escalate complex employee relations and legal matters where appropriate.
  • Support payroll-related reconciliations, including payroll journals, pension contributions and staff cost allocations.
  • Provide accurate payroll, headcount and benefits information for budgeting and forecasting.
  • Maintain records of salary changes, starters, leavers, working patterns and benefit adjustments.

About You

We are looking for someone with previous experience across UK payroll and HR administration, who is comfortable working with confidential employee information and managing deadlines accurately.

You will ideally have

  • Previous experience running or coordinating UK payroll, including PAYE, statutory payments and year-end processes.
  • Experience administering pensions, employee benefits and salary sacrifice schemes.
  • HR administration experience across the employee lifecycle.
  • Experience using payroll software, ideally Sage Payroll.
