Joining the Venture Global Ship Management (VGSM) team in London, you will hold a fundamental position in a team that manages the in house owned and managed vessels.

The Assistant Technical Superintendent (ATSI) will support VGSM Technical Superintendents in the safe, reliable, and cost-effective technical management of the company’s vessels.

The role provides day-to-day technical and administrative support across maintenance, defect management, procurement, dry-docking, budgeting, statutory compliance, and vessel performance while developing the knowledge and competence required to progress to Technical Superintendent (TSI).

Primary Objective

The Assistant Technical Superintendent (ATSI) acts as the primary support to the Technical Superintendent (TSI), ensuring technical information is accurately maintained, vessel requirements are actioned promptly, and technical activities are coordinated effectively between shipboard personnel, suppliers, Class, Flag Administration, and internal departments.

Qualifications

  • Senior Officer Certificate of Competency, or an undergraduate degree in a relevant maritime field.
  • Advanced Gas Tanker endorsement – preferred.

Experience

  • 2-5 years' experience in ship management, marine engineering or a technical support/projects role.
  • Previous sailing experience as a marine engineer - LNG carrier experience preferred.
  • Experience using planned maintenance systems and ERP software - Mari Apps PAL preferred.
  • Understanding of vessel maintenance planning, procurement processes and statutory survey requirements.
  • Ability to accurately prepare daily, weekly, monthly, quarterly and annual reports.

  • Role Responsibilities
  • Technical Vessel Support
  • Provide day-to-day support to VGSM Technical Superintendents in the management of company vessels.
  • Monitor vessel technical performance, maintenance completion, machinery defects and overdue work.
  • Review technical reports from vessels and ensure follow-up actions are completed within agreed timescales.
  • Coordinate the timely resolution of technical issues between vessels, suppliers and manufacturers.
  • Assist with machinery breakdown investigations and support root cause analysis activities.
  • Maintenance & Planned Maintenance Systems
  • Monitor vessel Planned Maintenance System (PMS) compliance and maintenance performance.
  • Review maintenance schedules, work orders and maintenance history to identify emerging issues.
  • Assist with maintaining PMS master data, equipment records and maintenance procedures.
  • Support Management of Change (MOC) activities relating to technical modifications.
  • Assist in developing maintenance instructions and technical guidance documentation.
  • Procurement & Technical Administration
  • Review vessel requisitions for technical accuracy, urgency and budget compliance before approval by the Technical Superintendent.
  • Assist with sourcing technical quotations and liaising with approved vendors.
  • Assist with the identification of additional vendors to service current & emergent needs throughout the fleet.
  • Monitor delivery of critical spare parts and coordinate logistics where required.
  • Maintain accurate technical records, equipment files, vendor documentation and certification.
  • Support contract administration for service providers and OEM agreements.
  • Dry Dock & Repair Support
  • Assist in preparing dry-dock specifications, repair lists and work packages.
  • Coordinate quotations, contractor documentation and technical evaluations.
  • Support onboard attendance during repair periods and dry docks where required.
  • Track repair progress, costs and technical documentation throughout project execution.
  • Ensure lessons learned and completed modifications are incorporated into fleet documentation.
  • Surveys & Regulatory Compliance
  • Monitor statutory survey schedules and certification status for assigned vessels.
  • Assist with Class, Flag State and Port State inspection preparation.
  • Coordinate survey attendance and follow-up actions.
  • Maintain records relating to statutory compliance and technical certification.
  • Budget & Financial Support
  • Assist Technical Superintendents with annual operating budget preparation.
  • Monitor repair and maintenance expenditure against approved budgets.
  • Track purchase orders, invoices and project expenditure.
  • Support cost analysis and identify opportunities for operational efficiencies.
  • Reporting & Data Management
  • Prepare weekly, monthly and quarterly technical reports.
  • Monitor fleet KPIs relating to maintenance, defects, reliability and technical performance.
  • Support development of Power BI dashboards and technical reporting tools.
  • Maintain accurate technical databases and document control systems.
  • Safety, Quality & Continuous Improvement
  • Promote compliance with the Company's Safety Management System (SMS), ISM Code and environmental policies.
  • Support internal technical audits and vessel inspections.
  • Participate in incident investigations and implementation of corrective actions.
  • Identify opportunities to improve maintenance processes, technical procedures and operational efficiency.
  • Maintain professional competence through ongoing training and development.
  • Work Conditions
  • This role will be performed in both an office environment and onboard company vessels.
  • When not traveling on company business, this role requires office attendance 5 days/week.
  • Up to 20% national/international travel can be expected each year, attending vessels/facilities and training opportunities.
  • Successful candidates must be able to board an LNG tanker ship via gangway and/or pilot ladder.
  • While performing the duties of this job, successful candidates will work indoors & outdoors, and be exposed to year-around weather conditions, ocean environments, and noise.
