As we continue to grow, we are seeking a proactive and highly organised Parts Controller to support the effective control and flow of engineering components and materials across our manufacturing operations.
About the Role
Working closely with Purchasing, Production, Design and Project Management, the Parts Controller will be responsible for ensuring components and materials are accurately received, identified, stored, issued and controlled throughout the manufacturing process.
This is a hands-on role requiring a high level of accuracy and attention to detail. The successful candidate will take ownership of parts control and material traceability, ensuring stock records within our ERP/MRP system accurately reflect physical inventory and that the correct components are available to support production requirements.
The role involves working with a wide range of engineering parts, including machined and fabricated components, raw materials, fasteners, assemblies and bought-in components. Previous experience within an engineering, manufacturing, automotive, motorsport, aerospace or similar technical environment would therefore be advantageous.
Key Responsibilities
- Receive and inspect incoming engineering components and materials, checking quantities, part numbers and condition against purchase orders and supporting documentation.
- Accurately book components and materials into the company's ERP/MRP system, ensuring correct quantities, part numbers, projects and stock locations are recorded.
- Maintain accurate control and traceability of engineering components throughout receipt, storage, production and dispatch.
- Pick and kit components against Bills of Materials (BOMs), production orders and project requirements, ensuring the correct parts are available when required.
- Issue components and materials to Production, Fabrication and Assembly, ensuring all stock movements are accurately recorded.
- Maintain clear identification and organisation of parts using part numbers, labels, production orders, project references and defined stock locations.
- Carry out regular cycle counts and stock takes, investigating and resolving discrepancies between physical inventory and system records.
- Monitor component availability against production and project requirements and proactively identify potential shortages or material risks.
- Work closely with Purchasing to identify outstanding components, obtain supplier delivery updates and support the resolution of supply issues.
- Liaise with Production, Design and Project Management to understand upcoming requirements and ensure parts are available in line with project schedules.
- Control the movement of components to and from subcontract suppliers for external processes such as machining, fabrication, coating, plating and finishing.
- Ensure engineering components are appropriately handled, packaged and stored to prevent damage, contamination or loss.
- Prepare components, assemblies and materials for internal movement, subcontract processing and customer dispatch.
- Maintain accurate records of goods received, goods issued, returns, stock transfers and inventory adjustments.
- Support continuous improvement activities relating to parts control, stock accuracy, kitting, labelling, material flow and storage efficiency.
- Maintain a clean, organised and safe parts and stores environment.
- Operate material handling equipment, including forklifts where authorised, in accordance with company Health & Safety procedures.
- Undertake other reasonable duties as required to support the Operations and Supply Chain functions.
Qualifications & Experience
- Previous experience within a parts, stores, materials control or inventory role, ideally within an engineering or manufacturing environment.
- Experience handling engineering, automotive, motorsport, aerospace or other technical components would be advantageous.
- Good understanding of stock control and inventory management processes.
- Experience using an ERP, MRP or manufacturing inventory management system is preferred.
- Experience working with Bills of Materials (BOMs), production orders or engineering part-numbering systems would be advantageous.
- Excellent attention to detail and a high level of accuracy when identifying, recording and handling components.
- Strong organisational skills and the ability to maintain an efficient and structured parts environment.
- Good communication skills and the ability to work effectively with Purchasing, Production, Design, Project Management and external suppliers.
- Able to prioritise workload and work independently within a fast-paced engineering and manufacturing environment.
- Proactive approach to identifying stock shortages, discrepancies and potential material issues before they affect production.
- Good computer literacy, including Microsoft Office.
- Counterbalance Forklift Licence preferred, or willingness to undertake training.
- Full UK driving licence desirable.
