About the Role
Our Historic Motorsport Technician will be responsible for the preparation, assembly, maintenance and development of historic and competition vehicles within the workshop. This is primarily a workshop-based role, although there may be opportunities to support customer events, testing and race meetings where required. The position would suit someone with experience in historic motorsport, vehicle restoration, race car preparation or high-quality automotive assembly who takes pride in producing work to an exceptionally high standard.
Key Responsibilities
- Vehicle Build & Assembly: Carry out mechanical assembly, strip, inspection and rebuild of historic competition vehicles and associated mechanical assemblies. Prepare vehicles for testing, competition and customer delivery. Assemble and install suspension, steering, braking, cooling, fuel and hydraulic systems to the required build specification. Carry out servicing, maintenance, fault diagnosis and repair work to a consistently high standard. Work from engineering drawings, build specifications and technical documentation. Ensure vehicles are assembled accurately and meet the required build specification, maintaining exceptional attention to detail throughout.
- Workshop Activities: Support complete vehicle builds, restorations and ongoing development projects. Install, set up and commission vehicle systems and components as part of the overall vehicle build. Diagnose and rectify mechanical faults using a logical and methodical approach. Maintain accurate build records and component traceability where required. Assist with vehicle preparation before and after customer events. Support occasional testing and historic motorsport events in the UK and overseas.
- Teamwork: Work closely with the Workshop Manager and engineering team to deliver projects on time. Communicate clearly with colleagues regarding build status and technical issues. Maintain a clean, organised and professional working environment. Support junior technicians where appropriate and contribute positively to the workshop team.
Qualifications, Skills & Personal Attributes
Essential:
- Good mechanical knowledge and practical workshop experience.
- Experience assembling, maintaining or restoring complete vehicles or mechanical systems.
- Strong understanding of suspension, steering, braking and general vehicle systems.
- Ability to interpret engineering drawings and technical information.
- Strong attention to detail and pride in producing work of the highest quality.
- Good practical problem-solving skills.
- Full UK driving licence.
- Willingness to travel occasionally for testing or motorsport events.
Desirable:
- Experience within historic motorsport.
- Experience preparing race cars or competition vehicles.
- Vehicle restoration or classic car build experience.
- Experience with suspension, chassis and vehicle assembly.
- Precision engineering or machining background.
