We are looking for an experienced and enthusiastic Pharmacist with an interest in General Surgery & Orthopaedics. The post involves leading the provision of medicines optimisation to our General Surgery & Orthopaedic Directorate teams in a varied and dynamic division. The successful candidate will work closely with the ward based teams implementing the principles of the modern day ward round, using skills, knowledge and experience to directly impact on patient care.
Main duties of the job:
- Lead and support the pharmacy Service provided to the General Surgery & Orthopaedics directorates.
- Work closely with the consultant workforce, the lead and specialist nurses, and other staff members associated with the pharmacy service to the General Surgery & Orthopaedics directorates.
- Be responsible for coordinating pharmacy clinical services to the Directorate, oversee and investigate medicines related safety incidents in the Directorate, monitor financial and clinical governance in the Directorate.
- Lead on evidence-based prescribing advice to ensure effective, appropriate, sustainable, cost‑effective and safe use of medicines and promote patient‑centred care for all patients.
- To lead on guidelines for the prescribing, administration and storage of surgical related medicines to facilitate good practice within the General Surgery & Orthopaedics directorates, within the Acute Trust and across the primary and secondary care interface.
- To provide training and education to all levels of Healthcare professionals in acute and primary care whilst linking into national networks to learn about developments to share across the network.
- To support 7‑day clinical services to the Trust on a rotational weekend, public holiday and On Call (EDC) rota basis.
Person Specification – Essential:
- MPharm & registration with the General Pharmaceutical Council as a Pharmacist.
- Postgraduate diploma in clinical pharmacy or equivalent hospital pharmacy experience.
- Independent Prescribing Qualification or prepared to be working towards this within 12 months of starting the role.
- Evidence of CPD and study beyond registration in line with requirements for revalidation and demonstrating commitment to lifelong learning.
Person Specification – Desirable:
- Membership of the Royal Pharmaceutical Society of Great Britain.
- Postgraduate qualifications relating to General Surgery and/or Orthopaedics or be willing to work towards this.
Skills, Knowledge & Abilities – Essential:
- Able to demonstrate a clear understanding of clinical pharmacy practice relating to General Surgery and/or Orthopaedics.
- Able to process complex clinical information in an accurate and timely manner.
- Able to communicate effectively using a variety of methods (written, verbal, presentation) with a wide range of people across the organisation.
- Demonstrate a clear understanding of best practice and legal requirements relating to medicines storage, prescribing and administration.
Experience – Essential:
- Significant post‑registration experience in a hospital/primary care pharmacy setting with a proportion of time in a clinical role.
- Experience in motivating teams.
