Join Wye Valley NHS Trust as a Consultant Geriatrician or Orthogeriatrician and play a pivotal role in shaping care for older patients across our purpose‑built Frailty Unit and community services. Main Duties:
- Leading ward rounds and multidisciplinary team meetings across our 72‑bed Frailty Unit.
- Participating in the general medicine on‑call rota (1:13 overnight, Monday‑Thursday) and specialty weekend cover (1 in 6).
- Delivering outpatient clinics and supporting discharge planning.
- Contributing to clinical governance, audit, and research, with dedicated SPA time for CPD and teaching.
- Working collaboratively to develop services and mentor junior doctors and ACPs.

Person Specification:
Essential Education & Qualifications:
- Full GMC registration, and on the specialist register in GIM and Geriatric Medicine with proven skills and up‑to‑date experience in GIM and Geriatric Medicine OR Full GMC registration, and within 6 months of specialist registration in GIM and Geriatric Medicine due to completion of training (or within 6 months of specialist registration) in GIM and Geriatric Medicine, with proven skills and up‑to‑date experience in GIM and Geriatric Medicine from completion of training, or application via GMC CESR with the submission completed at time of interview in either case.
- MRCP or equivalent
Essential Experience & Knowledge:
- Experience in the management of a broad general medicine caseload
- Experience in the management of an Orthogeriatric Medicine caseload, and appropriate subspecialty training
Desirable:
- Current ALS certificate or equivalent
- Experience in a subspecialist interest that will complement those of other staff
Essential Skills and Abilities:
- Possession of the clinical skills required to perform the job including acute medicine and general internal medicine
- Ability and evidence of working as part of a multidisciplinary team
Essential Audit and Research:
- Knowledge of multidisciplinary clinical audit principles
- Ability to critically assess published research and incorporate it into clinical practice where appropriate
Desirable (Audit & Research):
- Evidence of direct involvement in 2 specific medical quality improvement projects in the last 18 months
- Evidence of involvement in a research project
Essential Management and Teaching:
- Evidence of effective teaching of medical students, doctors in training and the multidisciplinary team

- Training and/or evidence in areas such as leadership, planning and change management
