We seek to appoint a Community Dental Officer Band A based at Gaol Street and Asda Dental Access centres. Part time hours will be considered. The Community Dental Service within WVT is a commissioned service comprising 5 clinics; 2 clinics in Hereford city, 1 in Leominster, 1 in Ross-on-Wye and 1 in Ledbury. The service provides a high standard of oral health care to a wide range of patient groups including children and adults with specific needs. These specific needs may include patients with complex medical and dental requirements; anxiety management and/or treatment under sedation and patients with urgent dental needs who are unable to access dental care in the General Dental Services.
Responsibilities:
- Provide high quality treatment planning, preventative and urgent/routine NHS dental care for a wide range of patients, including children and adults with additional needs or special dental requirements, in accordance with NHS Regulations and provider requirements.
- Maintain a flexible, patient-centred approach to treatment planning and service provision.
- Manage the day-to-day activities of the dental surgery in conjunction with other team members.
- Maintain proper standards appropriate to a clinical area, including infection control procedures and the efficient and effective use of resources.
- Provide urgent dental care for patients who cannot access NHS dental care; accept referrals from General Dental Service colleagues and provide a service complementary to other primary care providers.
- Prescribe appropriate items of dental care for delivery by other members of the dental team, ensuring the most appropriate use of the available skill mix.
- Ensure all treatment plans and care are explained fully to patients and that patient records are correctly noted.
- Travel across Herefordshire to deliver dental care as required.
Qualifications and requirements:
- Full GDC registration and a valid Performer Number.
- Evidence in a portfolio of up-to-date continuing professional development.
- Demonstrable leadership skills and relevant clinical experience.
- Excellent communication skills with an understanding of and sensitivity to the needs of relevant patient groups.
