An exciting opportunity has arisen within the Clinical Coding Department at Wye Valley Trust for a highly motivated individual to join the team as a Clinical Coding Team Leader, Band 6. This is an excellent opportunity for an experienced B5 to gain useful experience in a junior management role whilst providing expert, specialist coding expertise to the clinical coding team and Trust wide clinical staff. You will also be expected to manage your own clinical coding workload. There will also be the opportunity to expand your direction if you have an interest in either Clinical Coding Auditing or Training.

The role will involve responsibilities for mentoring of new coders, with shared responsibility for day to day support of the Coding Team. You will also be supporting the Head of Information Governance/DPO, Health Records and Clinical Coding to ensure effective service delivery for coding. This is a vacancy with a difference as we are looking for an applicant who will enjoy the opportunity and challenge to progress with their Clinical Coding career and develop their skills, either managerially or through audit or training. Support will be provided to enable this to be achieved, with both financial and allocated study time. The applicant will enhance their own learning with the continuous involvement of validation and data analysis, and will be expected to maintain their own high level of coding with regard to numbers coded and expected % accuracy.

Main duties of the job:

  • Support the Clinical Coding Team members and provide engagement with both Clinicians and other Trust staff, providing coding expertise.
  • Provide own high quality and timely coded data.
  • Provide training and mentorship to the clinical coding team members, where checking, validating and informal auditing may be necessary.
