Working within the Health Psychology Service to provide psychological interventions to people affected by changes to health, predominantly in oncology, palliative care and long‑term conditions pathways, with some opportunities in stroke and acquired brain injury services. Hold clinical responsibility for a caseload and provide assessment and interventions focussing on identifying and treating psychological issues associated with these health challenges. Provide specialist advice, consultation and training to service users, their significant others and colleagues, work effectively as part of a multidisciplinary team and contribute to service evaluation, audit, research and policy development. Offer clinical and research supervision and support to peers and less experienced psychologists and promote psychological thinking across the organisation.
Main duties of the job:
- Develop and deliver evidenced‑based psychological interventions to service users living with changes to their physical health or adjusting to an ongoing health condition, liaising closely with relevant health specialty services and community partners.
- Work as part of the Health Psychology Service multidisciplinary team to deliver a county‑wide psychology service for clients living with changes to health.
- Ensure systematic and equitable provision of high‑quality psychological assessment and interventions, including specialist assessment, formulation, interventions and evaluations.
- Offer advice, training and consultation on clients’ psychological care to colleagues and other professionals, working under clinical supervision within professional guidelines and the team’s policies and procedures.
- Work autonomously across a variety of settings, mainly via face‑to‑face consultations at the community base, with options for telephone/video consultations where beneficial.
- May also support inpatient settings, including telephone/video consultations.

Person Specification:
- Essential: BSc/ BA Honours degree in Psychology; Doctoral Degree in Clinical Psychology or Counselling Psychology (or equivalent for those trained prior to 1996) accredited by the British Psychological Society (BPS); HCPC registration as Clinical Psychologist or Counselling Psychologist; Eligible for registration as a Chartered Psychologist (Clinical or Counselling) by the BPS.
- Desirable: Evidence of relevant post‑qualification training in evidence‑based techniques, further postgraduate qualifications in neuropsychology, training/studies related to psychology and physical health, supervision training, continuing professional development.
- Skills, Knowledge & Abilities: Knowledge specific to the role and clinical area; advanced theoretical and applied knowledge of psychological approaches for people with psychological and neuropsychological difficulties; autonomous practice with appropriate supervision; psychometric assessment skills; creative evidence‑based interventions; therapeutic relationship skills; multidisciplinary representation and consultation; effective communication; support for carers; record keeping; IT skills; multimedia presentation skills.
- Desirable Skills, Knowledge & Abilities: Doctoral‑level research design knowledge, publications in peer‑reviewed journals.
- Experience: Working with clients with physical health problems and co‑morbidities, multidisciplinary and multi‑agency environments, culturally sensitive services, report writing, clinically relevant research and audit.
- Desirable Experience: Neuropsychological assessment, specialised psychological interventions for complex presentations, supervision and training, working with disadvantaged populations, working with families and carers.
- Travel Requirements: Ability to fulfil the travel requirements of the post.
