Join us as a Locum Consultant Microbiologist/Infection Control Doctor at Venture & Agents. An opportunity has arisen to join our friendly, patient‑focused and forward‑thinking team in a beautiful part of the country.
Responsibilities
- Provide comprehensive, efficient and cost‑effective clinical microbiology and virology services to Wye Valley NHS Trust and other users.
- Deliver infection prevention and control services, supporting the infection prevention team.
- Respond promptly to critical specimen results and liaise with consultant colleagues, hospital staff, medical microbiology teams and lead respiratory physicians for tuberculosis management.
- Participate in multidisciplinary team meetings: TB & NTM (three monthly), prosthetic joint infection (monthly), OPAT (weekly), diabetic foot ulcer clinic (fortnightly), Clostridioides difficile round (weekly).
- Chair the six‑monthly Antimicrobial Stewardship Committee, attend the Medicines Safety Committee and meet monthly with the antimicrobial stewardship team.
- Attend pathology board and other relevant committees such as decontamination, cleanliness, food safety, water management, PFI performance management and the HCAI forum.
- Take an appropriate share of departmental commitments and support teaching opportunities.
Qualifications
- Full registration with a licence to practise with the General Medical Council (GMC) or registration with the Health and Care Professions Council (HCPC) as a consultant clinical scientist.
- Evidence of MBBS, MB ChB or equivalent qualification.
- Evidence of MRCPath, MRCP or equivalent training and experience; CCT or equivalence in Infectious Diseases preferred.
- Experience in clinical microbiology, virology or infection control; knowledge of antimicrobial stewardship and infection prevention.
Employment Type Part‑time (six programmed activities – 3.6 WTE on a part‑time basis).
Location & Travel Wye Valley NHS Trust, Herefordshire. The post holder will be required to travel between sites within the trust and neighbouring counties.
