This is a great opportunity to work in a fast-paced environment where you\’ll be negotiating with suppliers, managing your own projects, and playing a key role in ensuring our fire safety projects run smoothly. We\’ll provide comprehensive product training, so you don\’t need to be a fire safety expert from day one.
What\’s in it for you?
Training & Development We\’ll provide full product training so you\’ll become an expert in fire safety products, even if you\’re new to the sector. You\’ll also develop your negotiation skills and gain valuable experience in project management.
Work Environment You\’ll be working with an experienced purchasing team who\’ll support your development. The role offers real variety – from handling urgent site requests to managing complex bespoke door projects worth thousands of pounds.
Career Growth This is a chance to build expertise in a growing industry that\’s genuinely making a difference – helping to make buildings safer and more sustainable. There\’s scope to take on more responsibility as you develop.
Work-Life Balance Monday-Friday schedule means proper weekends, and being based in Plymouth gives you access to both city amenities and the beautiful Devon countryside.

- Sustainable Transport: Cycle-to-work scheme supporting environmental initiatives
- Company Rewards: Access to employee discount schemes and recognition programs
What you\’ll be doing
You\’ll be managing bespoke fire door orders from start to finish, creating bills of quantities from project estimates, and handling both planned and reactive purchasing. A typical day might involve reviewing door specifications before they go into production, negotiating prices with suppliers, or sorting out urgent on-site material requests.
Key responsibilities
- Managing independent projects for bespoke fire door ordering
- Creating bills of quantities from estimates to forecast material requirements
- Reactive purchasing for on-site orders and urgent requests
- Thorough reviews of bespoke door orders before production
- Budget monitoring and spend analysis to maximise gross profit
- Supplier liaison and relationship management
- Price negotiations and supplier performance reviews
- Project-based purchasing within agreed budgets
- Resolving account queries and order issues
- Tender and rebate reviews to secure optimal pricing
What we\’re looking for
We need someone with solid buying experience – ideally with a construction background, though this isn’t essential. Fire safety knowledge would be useful but isn\’t a deal-breaker as we\’ll train you up.
You\’ll need
- Previous purchasing/buying experience
- Strong attention to detail
- Good communication abilities
- Data entry skills and Microsoft Office proficiency
- Ability to work independently and meet deadlines
Construction or fire safety experience would be advantageous but we\’re happy to consider candidates from other industries who have the right skills and attitude.
