Would you like to learn about working in live events and arts management? This is an exciting opportunity to work with two of the Island’s leading cultural organisations in a special trainee role as a Creative Projects Apprentice, working towards the Level 3 Events Assistant qualification. You’ll be working with Ventnor Exchange and New Carnival Company on a wide range of projects and activities. You will work equally across both organisations, learning more about all aspects of their work as well as taking an important role in key events like the Ventnor Fringe and the Isle of Wight Mardi Gras.
The role will involve:
- Helping with the day-to-day delivery of current workshops and events.
- Assisting in the programming and managing of a range of festival venues and stages.
- Assisting in the planning of artist travel and accommodation.
- Helping to implement Marketing activities.
- Assisting the delivery of opportunities hosted on the Brave Island platform for young people.
This is an entry level job position. You do not need to have any prior experience but we are looking for a candidate with enthusiasm, energy and a willingness to learn and develop your skills. You will be self-motivated and a team player whilst also being able to use your own initiative. You will have excellent communication skills – both written and verbal as well as good ICT skills.
This is primarily an office based role, but there will sometimes be times during events when you will be needed in the evenings and during weekends. This Apprenticeship will include a training element to help you successfully achieve a Level 3 Event Assistant Apprenticeship Standard. This training will be managed by Artswork who are a charity committed to work based learning and providing young people with accessible routes into the creative and cultural industry. The Apprentice will be part of a team of learners based in creative organisations across the south of England giving you a cohort of peers to share your experiences with.
This is a great opportunity to get your foot in the door, gain experience in events coordination, project planning and arts marketing on the Isle of Wight.
Entry Requirements
- Applicants should be literate and numerate and must be aged 18 or over.
- A Grade C/4 and above in English and Maths is preferable.
Skills Required
- Attention to detail/ good organisation skills.
- An interest in learning about lots of different art forms.
- Ability to think independently and work within a team.
- Ability to remain calm under pressure.
- Computer literacy including MS Office and Google suite.

- Enthusiastic and committed.
- Keen to learn and develop skills, and willingness to embrace change.
- Punctual and Reliable.
Future Projects
This is a 15 – 18 month apprenticeship placement with the possibility of continued employment in the future. Ventnor Exchange is based in Ventnor, and New Carnival Company in Ryde. Both offices are close to local bus connections. An apprentice will benefit from invites to all private views, exhibitions and events.
Practical info
- Responsible to: Creative & Operations Director.
- Hourly rate of pay: £10/hour.
- Number of hours per week: 30.
- Working Pattern: Mondays-Thursdays including two days in Ryde and two days in Ventnor (Some weekends and evenings may be required during events).
