We know it can sometimes be hard to find a job and volunteering isn’t always practical or affordable, so Brave Island is really excited to have teamed up with a range of different organisations to offer a number of paid placements.
The Nature Reserves Placement is a six month opportunity hosted by Hampshire and Isle of Wight Wildlife Trust. We’re looking for a young person who loves the outdoors and is interested in conservation. The placement holder will help the Trust with the management of their nature reserves, which are the areas of land they look after, in various locations across the Isle of Wight.
Here’s a little bit more about what the role involves, key dates and how to apply.
- Working alongside a team of staff and volunteers to support the management of the Trust’s nature reserves.
- Working outdoors in a variety of weather conditions and across various locations on the Isle of Wight.
- Helping with a number of tasks required to manage reserves such as winter scrub clearance, fencing, hay making, and balsam bashing.
- Learning new skills for land management and conservation.

This placement is open to those aged 18-25 at the start of the placement. It is one day per week for 6 months, and paid at a rate of £100/day. This placement is based at various Hampshire and Isle of Wight Trust nature reserves across the Island, you will be meeting at Wilder Little Duxmore each day, and need to be able to make your own way there.
