Are you an aspiring journalist/reporter/writer? Could you see yourself as a future local councillor or politician? If you have ideas and opinions you would love to air, the Isle of Wight County Press is offering an amazing opportunity, the chance to have a six month placement as a columnist!
You’ll write a monthly column, receive feedback from the editors, and even have your columns published. The paper is the biggest selling weekly local newspaper in the country and the website has huge reach across the Isle of Wight and beyond, with in excess of one million page views each month. As well as news stories, the paper also includes weekly columnists who voice opinions on anything and everything.
Now is your chance to feature in the paper, raise your own profile and have something impressive on your CV! You can write about whatever you wish, but your submission must be no longer than 500 words. Please bear in mind that the paper can’t run anything libellous, so opinion is OK, but claims of corruption (for example) wouldn’t be.
This is a great opportunity to build your CV with some examples of your writing in print, as well as picking up some helpful tips to improve your writing skills through feedback from the editors. You should write a column each month, and you’ll receive feedback on each one. Not all submissions are guaranteed to be printed, but as the placement runs for 6 months you can definitely expect to see some of them in print.
Practical info: To apply, please tell us why you would like to take part in this opportunity, as well as submitting a column (max 500 words). If your application is successful, you should write one column a month for 6 months which you’ll receive feedback on from the County Press editors.
