An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Research Proposal Officer to join a large faculty at a leading Higher Education institution. Working within the pre-award team, you will play a key role in supporting the successful delivery of grant-funded research. You will manage research awards through the award acceptance and set-up process, undertake due diligence checks, support proposal submissions, advise on costing and pricing methodologies, and ensure a smooth transition of awards to the post-award team.
This position offers an excellent opportunity for an experienced research grants professional to work closely with Principal Investigators, departmental research teams, finance colleagues, and external funding bodies in a fast-paced and collaborative environment.
Job Responsibilities- Set up research awards on Oracle-based systems and ensure accurate award creation and administration.
- Manage a portfolio of research awards, ensuring timely award mobilisation and handover to post-award colleagues.
- Provide advice and support throughout the grant submission process to Principal Investigators and departmental research teams.
- Support the costing and pricing of research proposals using institutional pre-award management system.
- Review funder terms and conditions and support compliance with funding requirements.
- Conduct due diligence checks on research partners and funders, identifying and mitigating potential risks.
- Support ethical approval processes and ensure compliance with research governance requirements.
- Maintain accurate and auditable records of research awards and funding data.
- Produce management information and workload reports to support operational planning.
- Assist with training and onboarding of new members of the Pre-Award team.
- Build strong relationships with academic, finance, and research support colleagues across the organisation.
- Educated to degree level or possess equivalent relevant experience.
- Significant experience within research grants administration, ideally within a Higher Education environment.
- Strong knowledge of the research grants and contracts lifecycle.
- Experience supporting pre-award processes, including proposal development, submission, and award set-up.
- Understanding of UK research funding mechanisms and funding landscapes.
- Experience using research costing and pre-award management systems.
- Strong financial administration and analytical skills, including proficiency with Excel and finance systems.
- High levels of accuracy, attention to detail, and problem-solving capability.
Location: West London
Rate: £24 - £27 per hour
Contract: 6-month contract
Hours: 35 per week
Working Pattern: Hybrid (3 days per week on site)
