Locum Principal Employment Lawyer - Full Time - Initial 3 Months+ - Predominantly Remote - Up to £70 per hour Umbrella
Venn Group's specialist Public Sector Legal team are currently recruiting for a Locum Principal Employment Lawyer to join a Local Authority on an interim basis. This is an excellent opportunity for an experienced Employment Lawyer to undertake a senior role within an established legal team, advising on a broad range of contentious and non-contentious employment matters.
Role Details:
- Position: Locum Principal Employment Lawyer
- Working Arrangement: Full Time, 36 hours per week. Predominantly remote working with ideally one day per week onsite, although flexibility can be considered
- Duration: Initial 3 months+, with potential for extension
- Start Date: ASAP
- Rate: Up to £70 per hour Umbrella
Duties may include:
- Providing advice on a broad range of employment law matters to internal departments and external public sector clients
- Advising on associated matters including data protection, health and safety and pensions where relevant
- Providing guidance on workplace practices, policies and statutory employment obligations
- Managing contentious employment matters and representing clients in Employment Tribunal proceedings
- Handling related civil proceedings, appeals and internal employment processes
- Instructing and working with Counsel where external representation is required
- Drafting and reviewing employment contracts, policies, handbooks and associated documentation
- Preparing reports and contributing to committee papers where required
- Attending committee meetings and providing legal advice as appropriate
- Supervising and supporting junior members of the legal team
- Managing a varied caseload independently and providing pragmatic advice to senior stakeholders
Candidate Requirements:
- Qualified Solicitor, Barrister or Legal Executive with significant Employment Law experience
- Strong experience handling both contentious and non-contentious employment matters
- Previous Employment Tribunal experience
- Experience providing advice to senior officers, managers and other stakeholders
- Strong drafting skills across contracts, policies and employment-related documentation
- Ability to provide clear and practical advice on complex employment matters
- Experience supervising or supporting junior legal staff would be advantageous
- Previous Local Government or wider Public Sector experience is highly desirable
- Ability to manage a busy caseload independently and work to competing deadlines
