Venn Group's specialist Public Sector Legal & Governance team are currently recruiting for a Locum Committee Manager to join a Local Authority on an interim basis. This is an excellent opportunity for an experienced Democratic Services professional to work at the heart of the authority's decision-making process, supporting elected Members, senior officers and a range of regulatory and decision-making committees.
Role Details:
- Position: Locum Committee Manager
- Working Arrangement: Hybrid working

- Rate: Competitive, dependent on experience
Duties may include:
- Coordinating committee agendas, reports, minutes and associated documentation
- Supporting regulatory and other formal decision-making committees
- Attending formal and informal meetings and providing procedural guidance
- Advising Members and officers on committee processes and statutory requirements
- Supporting elected Members in their local, strategic and civic responsibilities
- Identifying and escalating procedural issues where appropriate
- Managing a varied committee workload and ensuring deadlines are met
- Producing clear and concise reports from complex information
- Working closely with senior officers and elected Members across the organisation
- Using committee management systems such as Modern.gov or equivalent
Candidate Requirements:
- Previous experience within Local Government Democratic Services
- Experience preparing committee agendas, reports and minutes
- Good understanding of local government decision-making and the law relating to local authority meetings
- Previous experience working directly with elected Members
- Strong written and verbal communication skills
- Ability to manage competing priorities and work effectively to deadlines
- Sound political judgement and sensitivity
- Strong IT skills, ideally including Modern.gov or similar committee management software
- Ability to work independently while contributing effectively to a wider Democratic Services team
