An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Senior Healthcare Lawyer to join an NHS Trust in the South West on an interim basis, to start as soon as possible. The ideal candidate would be a qualified Solicitor, Barrister or Legal Executive with significant previous NHS experience. You will be acting as a gatekeeper for accessing external legal advice in relation to other clinical legal issues.
Duties
- Providing expert and specialist legal advice relating to claims and inquests
- Acting as the Trust lead for all matters relating to the investigation and management of clinical and non-clinical claims, in liaison with instructed solicitors and NHS resolution
- Acting as the Trust lead for the management of inquests, representing the Trust in the Coroner's Court as Interested Person making submissions on complex matters of Coronial Law to the Coroner
- Acting as the Trust lead for clinical legal services, ensuring that the Trust accesses appropriate legal advice relating to the clinical care of patients, engaging external solicitors where appropriate
- Providing advice on a wide range of healthcare law queries acting as gatekeeper for external legal advice where required, delivering continued instructions throughout a case and supporting clinical teams until resolution
- Responsibility for the management and professional leadership of the Litigation and Inquests team that will span across the entire organisation
- Establishing and implementing a programme of training and education relating to the management of inquests and claims to all relevant staff across the Trust
- Representing the Trust (or instruct solicitors/barristers to advise or act on behalf of the Trust) on such matters at court (civil, coronial courts, court of protection and criminal courts) as required
An hourly rate of £55 - £60 via umbrella is offered for this position, as well as general working arrangement flexibility. This assignment is 3 months initially and is subject to extension thereafter.
