We are looking for a Tree Team Manager to manage a dedicated tree team, oversee tree safety across all TDC land, and act as the responsible manager for tree‐related incidents, liaising with HSE, insurance, and internal Health & Safety. The role includes planning, inspecting, reporting, and coordinating essential tree works, as well as contributing to wider biodiversity initiatives.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead and manage the in‐house tree team, ensuring safe working practices, up‐to‐date training, and effective delivery of prioritised works
- Conduct comprehensive tree safety inspections using digital surveying tools and produce detailed reports with risk ratings and work recommendations
- Prepare and submit TPO and Conservation Area applications
- Support and manage the Tree & Biodiversity Coordinator to deliver planting schemes, replacement programmes, and conservation grassland projects
- Oversee contractor compliance, ensuring all qualifications, permissions and insurances meet legislation and best practice
- Manage budgets (approx. £250,000) covering staff, vehicles, machinery, and equipment
- Work collaboratively with councillors, TDC departments, residents and external partners
- Manage team of 4
Skills, experience and knowledge required
- Strong understanding of arboriculture, woodland and habitat management
- Sound grasp of H&S legislation, risk assessments and incident management
- Minimum 3 years' professional experience in tree management
- Certificate of Professional Tree Inspection (or equivalent)
- Degree in Arboriculture or Countryside Management
- Full UK manual driving licence
