Health & Safety Compliance Officer
Location: South East London
Working Pattern: On Site
Hours: 35 hours per week
Contract: 1 month minimum (ongoing potential)
Salary: £33-£38 per hour (Umbrella)
An excellent opportunity has arisen for an experienced Health & Safety Compliance Officer to support a busy Estates and Health & Safety function within an established educational environment in South East London.
The successful candidate will play a key role in ensuring statutory compliance obligations are effectively monitored, managed, and reported upon, whilst supporting the delivery of a safe environment for staff, students, visitors, and contractors.
Key Responsibilities:
- Provide administrative and compliance support to the Health, Safety & Security (HS&S) Committee and Sub-Committee.
- Prepare agendas, reports, supporting documentation, and meeting papers for committee meetings.
- Produce accurate meeting minutes and maintain records of actions and outcomes.
- Analyse accident and incident reports, identify trends, and prepare reporting documentation.
- Review accident investigations and liaise with colleagues to obtain supplementary information where required.
- Monitor mandatory training compliance, including online learning platforms, and follow up with staff regarding outstanding training requirements.
- Review and maintain contractor due diligence information, including annual questionnaires, safeguarding declarations, insurance documentation, and compliance records.
- Gather, review, and maintain departmental risk assessments, ensuring records remain accurate and up to date.
- Maintain and update compliance trackers and action logs.
- Develop and monitor action plans arising from audits, inspections, risk assessments, and compliance reviews.
- Coordinate compliance actions resulting from Fire Risk Assessments, Legionella Risk Assessments, and Electrical Installation Condition Reports (EICRs).
- Ensure driver documentation is regularly reviewed and validated, including driving licence checks.
- Monitor vehicle compliance records, ensuring MOTs, servicing schedules, taxation, and associated documentation remain current.
- Coordinate statutory engineering inspections and maintain certification for:
- LOLER (Lifting Operations and Lifting Equipment Regulations)
- PSSR (Pressure Systems Safety Regulations)
- LEV (Local Exhaust Ventilation Systems)
- Maintain accurate compliance records and databases, producing reports and updates for senior management as required.
- Work collaboratively with Estates, Facilities, HR, and operational teams to support wider health, safety, and compliance objectives
Ideal Candidate Profile:
To be considered for this opportunity, you will ideally have:
- Previous experience within a Health & Safety, Compliance, Estates, Facilities, or similar compliance-focused role.
- Experience coordinating statutory compliance, audits, inspections, risk assessments, and contractor management activities.
- Strong administrative, organisational, and stakeholder management skills.
- Experience maintaining compliance records, trackers, and action plans.
- Ability to work independently and manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment.
- A current Enhanced DBS is highly desirable due to the nature of the environment.
