We are recruiting an Interim Governance Lead.
Day Rate: £500 Inside IR35
Working Pattern: 5 days per week
Contract: Until 31 March 2026 (with intention to extend)
Start: Immediate
Location: Midlands-based (ideally 2 days onsite, flexible for the right candidate)
Overview: A local authority is seeking an experienced governance and procurement specialist to lead the development, implementation, and oversight of a procurement governance framework. This role is critical in strengthening transparency, compliance, and assurance across all organisational decision-making processes.
Key Responsibilities:
- Develop and deliver a robust procurement governance framework that supports high-quality, transparent decision-making.
- Ensure compliance with constitutional, statutory, and regulatory obligations, supporting governance, assurance, and democratic processes.
- Create toolkits, templates, and schedules aligned with wider corporate and committee governance structures.
- Provide organisation-wide training to build capability and ensure adherence to governance and reporting standards.
- Oversee the recording, tracking, and responses to FOIs, Member Questions, and committee-related actions.
- Act as guardian of the organisation’s procurement procedures and governance requirements.
- Identify compliance risks, recommend corrective actions, and support internal/external audit activity with clear and defensible documentation.
Outputs & Success Measures:
- Delivery of a comprehensive Governance Framework with supporting templates and schedules developed in collaboration with key corporate teams.
- Organisation-wide training on procurement governance, high-quality report writing and decision-making compliance.
- Support the automation and compliant publication of decision reports.
- Contribute to initiatives that strengthen adherence to constitutional and procedural requirements.
- Ensure all formal reports are fit for purpose, with timely feedback and appropriate sign-off.
- Lead the monitoring and reporting of FOIs, Member Questions and audit actions.
