An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Commercial Legal Counsel to join the in-house legal team of a major UK infrastructure organisation. This role sits within a high-profile programme delivering one of the largest and most complex construction projects in Europe.
The postholder will provide pragmatic, commercially focused legal advice across a wide range of matters, with a particular emphasis on major contracts and procurement. The role offers exposure to large-scale, high-value agreements and the opportunity to work closely with procurement, commercial and senior stakeholders across the organisation.
Key responsibilities include: • Drafting, negotiating and advising on complex commercial and construction contracts, including NEC and JCT forms• Supporting major public procurements and advising on risk allocation and contract strategy• Advising on contract interpretation, variations, claims and dispute avoidance• Managing external legal advisers and supporting dispute resolution where required• Producing clear legal advice and briefings for senior stakeholders and governance forums• Working collaboratively within a multidisciplinary in-house environment on high-value, high-profile projects
About you: • Qualified solicitor or barrister• Experience of commercial contracts and/or construction or infrastructure work• Comfortable handling high-value, complex matters and running your own workload• Exposure to public sector procurement and major projects is highly advantageous• In-house experience is useful but not essential• Pragmatic, resilient and commercially minded, with the confidence to advise at pace
