Job Title: Head of Health and Safety
Location: Fully Remote (occasional travel to sites)
Salary: £65,000 per annum + benefits
Hours: Full-time, 35 hours per week
Length: 18 month Fixed Term Contract

An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Head of Health and Safety to join an internationally recognised Children’s Charity on a fixed term contract. The purpose of this role is to lead the strategic development and implementation of a robust, sustainable Health & Safety (H&S) framework and system across the Organisation. The role will deliver the Health & Safety action plan, strengthen governance and compliance, embed a proactive safety culture, and ensure the Charity fulfils its legal obligations and duty of care to colleagues, volunteers, and visitors
across offices, retail stores, events, and projects.
Key Responsibilities:
- Develop and maintain a clear H&S framework aligned with legal duties and best practices
- Ensure policies, procedures, and roles are up-to-date, accessible, and consistently applied
- Provide accurate and timely assurance to the Audit & Risk Committee through improved reporting and KPIs
- Align risk and compliance functions to support integrated safety and resilience
- Promote leadership accountability and embed a proactive safety culture across the organisation
- Relaunch and lead the H&S Committee/Working Group to enhance colleague engagement
- Oversee incident reporting, investigation, and learning processes
- Implement and manage a user-friendly incident reporting system
- Assess and control risks across property, retail, events, lone working, and vulnerable workers
- Maintain a comprehensive H&S training matrix and ensure role-specific training is delivered
- Ensure adequate numbers of trained first aiders, fire wardens, and incident responders
- Lead regular audits and inspections to monitor risks and follow up on actions
- Simplify and standardise document control processes
- Build and lead a competent H&S team, providing strategic and operational support
- Develop and maintain the safeguarding culture of the Organisation
Ideal Candidate Profile:
- Chartered Member of IOSH or equivalent
- Significant experience in a H&S role for a large Organisation
- Experience managing serious incidents, investigations, and regulatory engagement
- Skilled communicator, able to influence senior leaders and engage volunteers and frontline staff
- Knowledge of security, and safeguarding interactions with H&S
- Familiarity with ISO 45001 or similar management systems
