We are seeking a proactive Service Charge Accountant to develop a robust service charge accounting structure in partnership with our customers. The successful Service Charge Accountant will ensure charges are set accurately, represent value for money, and are backed by effective financial controls and procedures.

Duties:

  • Prepare accurate service charge estimates and actual statements across various tenures
  • Manage sinking funds and support audit preparation with external auditors
  • Review and improve service charge apportionment to ensure fairness and full cost recovery
  • Check external management companies’ estimates and invoices to ensure correct recharging
  • Investigate budget variances and report findings to support financial management
  • Work with internal teams to ensure all rechargeable costs are identified and coded correctly
  • Support Section 20 consultations, resident engagement and service charge dispute resolution
  • Provide guidance and support to colleagues on service charge processes

Skills and abilities:

  • Experience of calculating and monitoring service charges
  • Experience working within a Housing Association
  • Part or fully qualified with a relevant accounting qualification
