As a Commercial Lawyer within a small and high-performing in-house team, you will provide strategic legal advice across the full project lifecycle. Your work will cover early development, procurement processes and post-award contract management.
You will take ownership of matters relating to commercial contracts and procurement, offering clear, pragmatic advice on contract drafting, negotiation and dispute resolution. The role offers variety and intellectual challenge, working with colleagues across multiple departments on high-profile initiatives that shape the future of the region.
Key Responsibilities:- Advising on procurement strategy and compliance with relevant legislation, including the Procurement Act 2023 and Public Contracts Regulations
- Drafting, negotiating and reviewing a wide range of contracts, including bespoke agreements, call-offs and order forms
- Advising on contract variations, novations, extensions, disputes and terminations
- Providing guidance on internal governance, including Contract Standing Orders
- Supporting colleagues on procurement challenges, tender clarifications and corporate litigation matters where needed
- Working collaboratively across departments on complex and strategically significant projects
We are looking for a qualified Solicitor, Barrister or Fellow of CILEX with:
- Strong post-qualification experience in commercial and procurement law (either in-house, private practice or public sector)
- The ability to handle complex and high-value projects with sound judgement and strong analytical skills
- A track record of drafting and negotiating commercial documentation
- Experience in advising on projects with significant regional or organisational impact
- Flexibility and willingness to support wider areas of the legal team when needed
- 28 days annual leave (rising with service) plus bank holidays
